Alone, ice-encrusted and exposed to the relentless winds, Markus Pucher, who was born in East Tyrol, stands at the summit of Cerro Torre. “It wasn’t a new record, it wasn’t a best time, but it was my adventure, my quiet moment,” he says today. And a moment that would shape his life: Pucher was only able to stop a fall on the descent with his ice tools at the very last moment.
